History of Best of Broadway

Held every September, Best of Broadway is a musical extravaganza that features the songs of the old and new favorites of Broadway musicals. Through music, song and dance the goals of the production are to entertain, educate and inspire as well as train aspiring actors, singers and dancers for a career in musical theatre. Over 200 community members from the Sacramento area volunteer their time, money and talents to make the production possible year after year.

Best of Broadway was conceived by David L. MacDonald in 1973 as a way to raise money for a local boys' home.  At this time and in every year since, Mr. MacDonald is still running what has become the Best of Broadway musical extravaganza.  The show has consistently received rave reviews and is now perceived by the community as a Sacramento tradition.

Best of Broadway currently produces one show a year, with 15 performances each September. Over 200 volunteer cast members, ranging in age from 7 to 70, are chosen from open auditions to participate in the show. The production continues to dazzle Sacramento audiences with its outstanding singers, dancers, gymnasts and musicians as the perform old and new Broadway hits. Every year a new show with local talent is produced to entertain Sacramento audiences, lifting the spirits of all who attend and promoting the talent of local performers.
